  1. Let's hope you don't get one of those spoiled brats, sent abroad by their rich and corrupted government official parents.  They are here mostly to find way to launder money for their parent.  Honest working parent do not have money for this program.

  2. it's great to hear an exchange students form Vietnam is coming to America. From my experience, lots of my Vietnamese friends steal stuff, curse, and love karaoke.  Also, yes indeed, they are extremely respectful to their elders. They will do as they are told, no questions answered. (I'm also Vietnamese, so i know lots of stuff) Something also would be they pretty much eat only rice. any other question that is specific about the Vietnamese life...just ask :D

  3. Well the Vietnamese teenagers I know are real work-a-holics when it comes to school and studies. They would make most American students look like slackers. Some of them are shy, but with a bit of light effort they open up.

The ones I know have less in the way of "things" - fewer clothes, gadgets, etc., than American kids would normally have. But they aspire to the same junk, er stuff.

  4. I recently traveled to Vietnam for a service learning trip and learned many things about the highschoolers-

They go to school from about 8 a.m. until noon. At noon they go home and help cook and clean with their mothers or take care of younger siblings. They work very hard when it comes to school and family, since it is difficult for them to get out into a good University. Their curriculum is about the same as any standard curriculum (mathematics, science, language, etc..). Now most Vietmenese schools have English learning classes.  They have the same hobbies like shopping, hanging out with friends, talking on the phone. They're practically just like average teenagers and they are very family oriented.

however this is experience from meeting a highschool from lower class families.  I'm sure if this exchange student is in the higher class some things may be different

  5. You are very lucky, you are probably going to meet the nicest person you ever met and will have a freind for life. She will be polite a little shy and very respectfull to her elders.Do not think this will make her boring as she will be up for some fun.try to remember she has travelled a very long way and for the first few days will be very tired and may suffer jet lag.Vietnamese people tend to go to bed early and rise early, they are also keen on exersice.I think both of you will have a great time.
