A sound business idea is one that fits your life and your amount of money.  Running an airline is a sound business idea if you realize that there is no airline that is going from Boise, Idaho to Butte, Montana.  You could lease a plane and hire a pilot and buy some gas and you'd be open for business.  You would need 6 passengers a day to use your airline.  If only 5 use it, you lose money and can't pay the pilot.  If 8 use it, you could save the money to buy your airplane instead of lease it.

A sound business idea is one that has a possibility of success.  Not every sound business idea makes a profit , tho.
