  2. Buddhism is idolatry! God does not accept that.....Try to figure out if a statue is going to help you or if God will..... The most logical answers is God will with his great powers.....

  3. "Love me for me", you have no idea what Buddhism is about, do you? They teach something you've never bothered to learn. Wisdom, knowledge, self contentment.

Buddhists don't worship a statue. They worship intelligence, acceptance...

Probably why you could never be a Buddhist.

To the author of the question, sorry about barging in like this. I haven't a clue to the answer in your question. Just had to leave my two cents to idiot stick there.

  4. But Theravada is so much nicer.

  5. They try not to harm any living creatures.I like thier religion for these values. And I like ex Beatle George Harrison's song called 'My sweet Lord' but he might have been a Hindu, though i'm guessing they are similar religions.

  6. The best website on Buddhism is Buddhanet. It's an extensive site so here are the specific pages you're looking for:

    http://buddhanet.net/e-learning/index.ht...

These pages provide a very clear introduction to many aspects of this ancient tradition. It's non-sectarian and avoids jargon -- ideal for someone who is beginning to look into Buddhism.

Buddhism has three major traditions: Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. The Theravada tradition is centered in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Sri Lanka). Mahayana is centered in East Asia (China, Korea, Vietnam, Japan). And Vajrayana is centered in Tibet.

There are differences is doctrine among these traditions but, at least for me, the differences seem kind of silly. Because, after the doctrine gets stripped away, each tradition teaches us that we can gain liberation from suffering through our own efforts in meditation practice.

And that's the point of Buddhist teaching. Buddhism is fundamentally a practice tradition, not a faith tradition. It's about *doing,* not about knowing.

So as you read about Buddhism, keep in mind that ultimately the work of transformation is your own work.

    Best wishes in your (re)search!
