  1. It's quite safe.

The most  beautiful place is Baikal lake. But to get there from Moscow by train takes about 3,5 - 4 days.

Most important cities which you can see on the way: Nizhniy Novgorod, Kazan, Yekaterinburg,  Novosibirsk.

  2. Safe but be sure to lock your cabin at night and not to open the door in the middle of the night. It is fairly common that people will come by to find a stupid foreigner to rob on Russian trans.

  3. Pretty safe.

You see thievery in movies , but it doesn't happen much in real life.

I love going on Russian trains... there's something very "Russian" about it...

  4. Reasonably safe; but advisable to use a money belt. Plenty of info on the internet, if you do a search........

  5. it's pretty safe but you need to keep your money safely, don't show it, don't spend to much in the restaurant-car or for train-vendors. Don't expect the restroom to be perfect. It's all made of metal and may be windy and sometimes stinky, besides it has a heavy door that may close with a loud sound.

If you're traveling in the ecomony class car - don't worry about drunks. drinking alcohol drinks is prohibited there.

Enjoy the view from the window. The most wonderful places are: Ural mountains, The border of Europe and Asia, Krasnoyarsk Stone Poles, Baikal Lake, pine forests, but the railroad avoids the cities directly, so you'll see only a small part of villages, towns and cities.

Don't stay outside at the stations too long. If they have a limit of 15 or 10 or 5 minutes, the train will leave exactly in that time. and wouldn't wait for anyone! Don't be late or your train will be gone.

you can take hot water from a big "samovar" at the "head" of your car.

Cold water will be sold at the stations. There you can try drinks and food from many different regions of Russia.

Be ready that in summer it may be very hot in your car.

DON"T CHANGE MONEY IN THE CAR! Change it only in Banks or you'll  have troubles with the police.

And be careful in meeting new friends. Some people may be dangerous, even if they wouldn't take anything from you, they may lie to the police about you (it's extremely rare - but still, don't forget ). You may talk to a lot of students, back-packers or other people who can speak English, especialy if they are foreigners. That's all. enjoy! good luck

  6. watch this on the sky TV and have the DVDs looks amazing have a great timehttp://www.railbookers.com/luxurytrains/...

  7. You should consider taking the Trans-Mongolian route and starting/ending in Beijing. Mongolia has some of the most beautiful countryside in the world and the people are very friendly.

In Siberia (apart from the other cities mentioned) you should spend a day in Irkutsk. Its also the jump off point for Lake Baikal.

  8. Compare to the fact that the only thing in life that is really safe is the death

    - yes, the rides are safe

    - no thieves recorded

    - the train itself
