It was founded after the second world war, based on the principals of the old League of nations.

It was formed to provide a forum for debate for all political ideologies, with a view to heading off confrontations which would lead to war.

Unfortunately, the major parties have used it to further their own agendas, and it has served a watered down function as a peacekeeper, after hostilities have broken out

It is not the organization it was intended to be.
