Question:

Tell me about your camera?

I had recently bought a Kodak digital camera, well it didn't work right out of the box so I returned it. Got a replacement, worked a week and just quit working. Now I am looking for a new camera. I have spent countless hours looking for one but can't decide. I have found with a lot of the new cameras it takes so long for the pic to take after you press the shutter. I have 2 kids and lots of animals and I always miss the good shots. That's my only real requirement is a faster shutter speed and something $250 or under. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Unfortunately, all digicams suffer from what's called "shutter lag" - the time between when you press the shutter release and when the camera actually takes the picture. Using the flash exacerbates the problem since it has to recycle (recharge) before you can take the next picture.

If you really want to catch all the action all the time your only option is a DSLR. Fortunately, prices for them are dropping. Sony (A200, A300), Nikon (D40x), Pentax (K200D), Canon (XTi, XSi) all offer good entry-level DSLRs in the $500 to $700 range. A bit above your $250 price but really the only viable option unless you want to continue to be frustrated by missing those pictures you're missing with your digicam.

  2. Either anticipate the shot you want with a P & S or save up for a DSLR.

  3. Please look at the Panasonic FZ18. I have been looking for countless camera models for months and I've finally settled with a Panasonic FZ18. I am very happy with my purchase and have been trying to inform people of its existence. LOL. There is a shutter speed priority setting in it which is best for taking photos of active kids. Please consider it on your list. :)
