  1. Asatru.  We honor the old ways of Scandinavia, including the honoring of our Elder Kin, the Gods, the Aesir and Vanir.  Asatru is a compound modern icelandic word that means True to the Aesir. Asa Tru.  (Asa is singular of Aesir).

There are many different holidays that some honor and some do not, but most common are the equinoxes and solstices.  We would hold some form of ritual, either a sacrifice or a libation.  Animal sacrifice is not considered taboo to us.

There is no superiority between men or women.  Gender has nothing to do with it, but Honor and how you hold yourself, mental knowledge and common sense, and physical prowess. We are not, by any stretch of the word, pacifists. We believe in Honor, and in doing so, must defend our honor. We do not turn the other cheek.

We seek truth of our religion not by making stuff up, but anthropology, archeology, studying primary sources, etymology. Science is not anathema to us, but helps us understand the world around us.  Scientific discovery can be considered a religious discovery, as the better we understand the world around us, the better we understand our Gods.

Who are our Gods?  I am a follower of Odin, in all his perspectives.  Most primordial of his aspects is that of the Wind, especially the crazy insane winds of Fall and early winter.  Also, he is the God of poetry, and sorcery, both with the runes and with a method of magic that I have tried and failed at, Seidr, trance magic.  He is the God of war, bloodshed, and frenzy.  All forms of Frenzy: the inspiration of a poet, the trance of a witch, and the berzerkergang rage of the Berzerks and Ulfsarks, or Ulfhednars.  Bear shirts and Wolf shirts.  Shape shifters, in other words.

There is Thor, God of thunder and lightning, defender of Midgard, who holds at bay the chaotic force that is the domain of the Jotnar.  There is Tyr, God of the Sky, the pillar that holds the heavens up, who gave his right hand, his sword hand, as a sacrifice to have Fenrir bound and gagged, so as to postpone the danger he represents.  Freyr, The Lord Ingvi, Vanic God of peace, and of the growth and spring.  Freya, his sister, the Lady, Vanic Goddess of love and sexuality, and witchcraft and war.  Frigga, Odin's Beloved, The woman of the household, who sees all things, but speaks none of it.  Sif, Thor's wife, the Vanic Goddess of grain, and some believe to be a fierce warrior Goddess in her own right, though no stories suggesting this exists.  Unfortunately, our lore was recorded by christian monks, and we are forever speculative of what they modified, and what they did not.  There are many, MANY other Gods and Goddesses we honor, we have many afterlives, we have several parts to our collective soul, some that go to an afterlife, some that are reborn.

And our symbol is the hammer, as the one I choose to use for my icon.

    Hail the Aesir

    Hail the Vanir

Hail to the Day, and the sons of Day

Hail to the Night, and the daughters of Night

Hail to the Earth that gives all

  2. I do good, I feel good.

I do bad, I feel bad.

    That is my religion.

  3. I have been thinking about religions since I was young. Religion for me is something that people extremely believe that it is the truth about the world and by following their teaching, you should be a good and happy person.

I born in Thailand, in which Majority(90%) are Buddhism. Unfortunately I don't go to temple quite often. I went to temple not more than 50 times in my whole life.(19 years old now) However, I went to a christian school. They made all students pray in christian way, which was confused me and got me start to think about religions more.

Most religions(such as Christian, Islam etc) will say that what they say are definitely true and others are false and people who don't follow them will go to h**l, which I don't like the ideas and feeling that I got from this at all. However, Buddhism is the only religion(which many Westerners do not consider a religion) that doesn't want the followers to have faith in it but to think about it carefully and see by themselves if they agree with what it says. It's the only religion in the world that want its followers to use their wisdom and intelligence, not faith. Philosophy of Buddhism bases solely on cause/effect or -science- . Buddhism is the only religion that doesn't have the so called "GOD". For me GOD is just imaginary.

When I was in my international high school, we had a field trip to a temple. My teacher, who is a christian, was very interested in Buddhism. We all went to meet a monk, who I couldn't remember his name. My teacher asked a lot of questions about the Buddhism, while I enjoyed listen to the answers. I remembered what the monk said very well.

The monk said: "Don't just believe in what I tell you, but think about it carefully with logic before you decide if it is true or not."

There is nothing wrong with other religions. I have many friends who are christian, Muslim and Hindus, and they are very nice and great people. I just say that I like and agree on what Buddhism taught me about the world than other religions. It makes me a reasonable person, see the positive side of everything in the world but never underestimate the negative. I use my wisdom to think about everything, not faith.

So yeah may be you should study a bit about Buddhism and use your wisdom to consider it carefully ;)

Tell me which one you like the most! lol

    --------------------------------------...

"The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this deion .. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism."

  4. ( ISLAM   )....The word Islam is a verbal noun originating from the triliteral root s-l-m, and is derived from the Arabic verb Aslama, which means "to accept, surrender or submit." Thus, Islam means acceptance of and submission to God, and believers must demonstrate this by worshipping him, following his commands, and avoiding polytheism. The word is given a number of meanings in the Qur'an. In some verses (ayat), the quality of Islam as an internal conviction is stressed: "Whomsoever God desires to guide, He expands his breast to Islam."[11] Other verses connect islām and dÄ«n (usually translated as "religion"): "Today, I have perfected your religion (dÄ«n) for you; I have completed My blessing upon you; I have approved Islam for your religion."[12] Still others describe Islam as an action of returning to God—more than just a verbal affirmation of faith.[13] Another technical meaning in Islamic thought is as one part of a triad of islam, imān (faith), and ihsān (excellence); where it represents acts of worship (`ibādah) and Islamic law (sharia).[14]
