    Traditionally the patterns are intricate and repeats, since the solid- colored cloth is always folded in the same manner. l have seen clothing combining different patterns of batik in one garment, but l don't know if that would have been done traditionally.

    l also met a woman from ???, a country where this cloth is made, at a craft fair. She designs original patterns based on traditional design techniques, she and her husband process the cloth and sell it by the yard for very good money, however l doubt they are getting paid much per hour for the work because the process takes many steps.


  2. Batik is the Indonesian/South Pacific art tie-dying cloth. One of the traditional ways to batik is to use wax as a way to block out the dye and create intricate patterns. Block printing with the dyes is also used for repeative patterns. The cloth is later used for Sarongs/Pareos and other decorative wear.
