  1. 1) Get a potty and clean the cage once a week. Every time you clean the cage keep the potty in the same place. Soon your hamster will go pee mostly there. When it does you wont have to clean the cage as much. Clean it when you think it gets too smelly.

    2) Hamsters can be very friendly depending on how you interact with them. If you set aside a special time for you to play with your hamster everyday you'll probably make your hamster more tame.(if you put together the whole life time of people, people owning hamsters is a fraction of a second. they're still wild.) if you have a bath tub you should wash it down so no chemicals are smelled, you should take everything out of hamsters reach. then line it with a towel and put toys and cardboard boxes around the inside. you can then lay raisins sparingly around the bathtub for your hamster. you can put your master in there and it will make him\her in it and it will make your hamster much happier.

    3) You can play with your hamster as much as you want, but you should let it get some rest because hamsters are nocturnal animals. You can still take them out during the day, but don't take it out, ten minutes later put it back in, ten minutes later take it back out again because that will make it very cranky.

    4) As long as you have a small feeding container you should wait until it's empty to refill it. Get a mix that doesn't have a lot of sunflower seeds in it. Take the sunflower seeds out of the feeding bowl and put them in a ziploc baggie. Do that every time you refill the food bowl. Every other day you can give your hamster one sunflower seed. They are fattening for hamsters.

    5) Hamsters can be left alone for 2 full days as long as you give them a lot of food before leaving. If youre leaving for over two days the you should have somebody take care of your hamster for you. Find somebody that doesnt mind cleaning the cage, feeding the hamster, refilling the waterbottle everyday, holding and interacting with your hamster, and most of all can do it for free or very cheap. You should go for a friend or relative that doesnt have any other pets in doors.

    6) Hamsters dont live longer depending on what type of breed it is. They can live up to three years and longer if you make sure your hamster is kept very healthy and fit. For a first time owner I recommend that you get a syrian hamster because they dont need a lot of attention and a lot of toys unlike the dwarf hamster who needs a lot of toys and attention to keep up with its energy level.

    Details from me:

    1) You should get a wire cage with two floors. Make sure that they aren't to far apart because hamsters have bad eyesight and can't see how tall things are. Make sure the second floor covers most of the cage so you can fit more things on it and there arent a lot of openings for a hamster to jump off of. When you pick out a cage, get one that doesnt have a starter kit with it and the bars on the side of the cage are a half of an inch and smaller apart.Get a cage that has a removable top so its easier to clean.

    2) For bedding, get carefresh bedding. It's a unique, natural fiber bedding that is made from reclaimed wood pulp waste. It is ideal for postoperative care. This soft and absorbent fiber is non-irritating and is also recommended for pets or pet owners suffering from respiratory ailments or allergies.

    3) For interior you should get a igloo house for sleeping. Make sure it's the second to smallest size. Get a solid wheel. Wire wheels are dangerous because hamsters feet can get stuck between wires while running if not careful. I would get a wheel called "Silent wheel," it doesnt squeak while turning and its solid all the way around. You should get another little shelter like a fruit house or something cheap to go on your second floor. Don't get one that is made out of wood or a tasty treat. Get one that's plastic because your hamster won't demolish it. You should get a potty that is called "Little John," because it's cheap, but it still works in every way. With the potty you should get two boxes of litter called "Potty Litter," by Super Pet. It doesnt have a scent to it and your hamster wont eat it so it doesnt harm. When refilling the potty only use enough to cover the whole bottom of it. You should get a plastic water bottle that has a wire hook for a wire cage. Refill the water bottle with fresh water once a day. For a food bowl you should get a small ceramic bowl because when your hamster steps on it, it wont fall over(your hamster might sleep in it at first but dont be alarmed). That is the recommended interior. Make sure you get a cage that will fit all that.

    4) For treats and food you have to be careful. Get a bag of food that doesnt have a lot of sunflower seeds(follow instructions on answer for question number four). For treats you should get yogurt chips and only give one to your hamster a day. You should get treat sticks and give one at a time. When your hamster eats all of one wait a week before putting in the second one. I also recommend getting wood chews for your hamster to knaw on when their teeth get to long. Dont get the colored ones though because sometimes when the color gets wet, it can stain your hamsters fur(it happened to my brothers hamster. The fur around his mouth stayed blue until he died

I recommend getting a male because they're cheaper and they dont go into heat. If the hamster ur getting is over 13.00 then dont get it because its a rip off.

  3. I'm assuming that you are planning to add one to your family.

I'm not sure whether or not they all act the same or have the same manners, but here are some things I find interesting about my black bear friend. He is highly friendly and has never bitten anyone that I know of. He is, in fact, quite the lazy fellow. He has escaped the cage a few times, due to my leaving the top of it open. I guess he deserves a little adventure every now and then, being that his life will be expected to be quite short in contrary to human lives. I have one of those balls that he can get inside of and roll around the house. He seems to love that. He enjoys learning the path he's on, and then testing his skills of running a perfect circle about 1-2 ft. in diameter. I have to say, he is quite the pro at that. Lol It's very astonishing to me, the intelligence. I think he has become a bit of a picky eater and has decided to eat everything in his food dish except for the vitamin pellets that they put in the food. He will pee on them in the dish after removing all of the other food. It's almost as if he means to spoil the food so that i will remove it, and maybe not give him that part of the food again. : P Quite charming isn't he? I learned once that it would be a good idea to hide his food in different parts of the cage, since it is in their nature to dig and search for food. I do this to his treats and may remove the food dish soon. It is said that they will enjoy the game, probably because of the belief that they have worked hard to find the food. He used to drink alot less water, until I moved to a much warmer climate. Now he drinks an abundant amount in one day. If you live in, say, the state of Florida; you may want to check their water often! He loves to chew too, so maybe buy a good bit of chew toys that are safe for him.

I use pine chips, because I have learned that cedar is a bit strong to their small sinuses and my cause health issues.

From a baby, he grew very fast, so a larger cage with room to run around can be a good choice if it is affordable to you. Well, that's about all I can think of atm. It's probably more than you've expected. Lol Good day.      : )
