Not all deserts are hot.  The largest desert is the world is Antarctica.

The Atacama Desert is the driest desert in the world, but not the hottest. It is actually very cold.

Most deserts are located on the other side of mountain ranges away from the ocean.  Many deserts occur because of rain-shadows.  This is when the other side of the mountain towards the ocean gets the rain and no rain gets to the other side of the mountain region.

Desert biomes are very hot and dry climate. They have less than 10 inches of water per year. They also contain specialized organisms that live there.
