Tell me honestly, what is the real purpose of going to a Bar?

I know this snooty Bar owner too proud for his britches, saying people actually have 'fun ' in his Bar, without having to get drunk and trying to shag someone. (Sigh) What a crock. . I think it is sometimes more fun to just go to a convenience store than hanging out there, and cheaper, too.

Why spend 4 or 5 times as much to hang out in a bar, when you know d**n well it is mostly for getting drunk, scoring drugs, or picking up a one night stand? My conclusions, anyway.

  1. You must not have much experience with bars (or too young to go in one), otherwise you'd know that there are different types of bars that range from your local pub that people go to after work, to multi-story dance clubs that only the exclusive can go to. You really don't have to drink to have fun at a bar, especially if you like to dance. We go to this one bar all the time that has pool tables at one end and a dance floor at the other. There are bikini contests, male dance review shows, foam parties, Halloween costume contests (I won 3rd as a stripper behind Mr. T and Captain Jack Sparrow!), and all kinds of other stuff. But we mainly just go to dance, it's fun and we've gone plenty of times without getting drunk.

  2. Don't really know why you may go there.  I use to do this for a variety of reasons.  I guess that my main reason was looking for a nighttime partner.  Was not into getting drugs, just to get drunk, I could do this at home.

Once married, we will still go to a bar, but it had best be serving a decent dinner.

  3. I'm in total agreement.  I only go to a bar very rarely, and the only reason is for darts and pool.  But at $7 for a cheap American beer, we can't stay too long!  Plus, I hate being jostled around by drunks and leches.  And women who puke on toilets and clog them with their feminine products, slimy floors, and having to pay for a cab for the way home on top of the high booze prices.  We love to sit at home, drink, laugh (and not have to scream at each other!), and watch movies and joke around.  We haven't been to a bar in about 3 years now, much happier tying one on at home.  :)

  4. You don't EVER go to a bar just to have a couple, hang out, and go home? I don't think those are the only reasons that people go to a bar. I go with my boyfriend most times (not to have a one nigth stand), and I like to go out to just have fun.  Go dancing and to meet new people?? It's also nice to go somewhere and not worry about if your being too loud for your neighbors. The drinks are more expensive, but there is more atmosphere than just sitting around your house.

  5. Your experience does not apply to everyone and is a classic definition of a "dive bar."

Plenty of places BrewPubs, for example,  provide products and environments for those of us that do not want to hang out with your type of people. The $ is not an issue but the experience is.

But the classic dive bar and most dance clubs are for getting drunk and getting laid as an ancillary benefit to dancing and social entertainment.

  6. maybe its different for guys but for me I go to bars to have fun and dance with my friends. Its NOT to spend money or meet guys!

  7. relaxing...

  8. to be happy

  9. I think there is more to it that. Although the ones you mentioned are true you have forgotten a few too. How about having fun, interacting with other adults, dancing, catching up with friends, conversation, to name only a few. I miss going out and visiting with other adults and dancing, why I don't go as much anymore is beyond me. Hope this helped you.

  10. i go to meet all kinds of different people, watch live bands or different kinds of shows, or even to play bar games and win lame *** prizes..... i usually drink before going to the bar and get a nice buzz before paying ridiculous amounts of money for booze....nuthing wrong w/finding a piece of strange that will buy you some drinks....... i love bars.....i always have fun.....whether it be a hole in the wall bar where i just bs w/the patrons and bartenders or a big bar where i can flirt w/everyone and their momma!

  11. So what is the purpose of going to see a football game?  Get Drunk and Watch football?

Exactly the same concept my friend...you answered your own question...but with a huge negative spin.

The reason to go to a bar is to have fun...usually while drinking alcohol!  Bars have Flat Screen TVs with your local team on, good seating, fun bartenders, fun atmospheres, regular people, and EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME!

Go watch some reruns of Cheers if you aren't old enough to drink.  If you are old enough to drink, get a few of your friends together and go to your local bar.  Pick one that you haven't been to in awhile, or pick your favorite, pick one to watch a game at, pick one to go play pool, go dance with your girl, or just to go talk with your friends...I bet ya your tab that you have a fun time regardless if you actually drink.

  12. The real purpose of going to a bar is to get drunk, score drugs, and pick up girls for a one night stand

  13. Years ago I would have agreed with you but now I go to the local bar to shoot Pool, toss some darts and have a great time with my friends.

Yeah, I might tip a few more beers than usual but I have a great time.

I'm married now and my wife is HOT so I don't worry about picking up girls for one nighters.

  14. To either get away, or meet someone of the opposite s*x.. well, for most of us
