GETS SALMONELLA?!!! My doctor confirmed today that my daughter has salmonella. My husband and I are anal to the nth degree abotut washing our hands. How did my child catch this? Of course I know the answer...she started daycare a week ago friday. I can't pull her out but I do need to call the daycare and make them aware. How do I do this so as not to blow up at them and has anyone else experienced this?

  1. You need to do more than call the daycare, you need to call the health department so they can go out there and make sure the daycare is safe.

  2. I am sorry your little baby is sick....I don't think I would be able to not blow up at them...I would start to look for a different day care...My question is how many other kids from that daycare are sick too??

  3. do you, your family or any surfaces you come into contact with have anything to do with pet turtles?

might sound silly, but i read about an infant who caught salmonella from her brothers pet turtle.

i found this, dont know if any of it will be familiar:

Salmonella live in the intestinal tracts of humans and other animals, including birds. Salmonella are usually transmitted to humans by eating foods contaminated with animal f***s. Contaminated foods usually look and smell normal. Contaminated foods are often of animal origin, such as beef, poultry, milk, or eggs, but any food, including vegetables, may become contaminated. Thorough cooking kills Salmonella. Food may also become contaminated by the hands of an infected food handler who did not wash hands with soap after using the bathroom.

Salmonella may also be found in the f***s of some pets, especially those with diarrhea, and people can become infected if they do not wash their hands after contact with pets or pet f***s. Reptiles, such as turtles, lizards, and snakes, are particularly likely to harbor Salmonella.  Many chicks and young birds carry Salmonella in their f***s. People should always wash their hands immediately after handling a reptile or bird, even if the animal is healthy. Adults should also assure that children wash their hands after handling a reptile or bird, or after touching its environment.

  4. WOW, how scary. I have never heard of a baby getting salmonella. Has you doctor ever seen a case of that in baby so young?

I agree with the person who recommended calling the health department. I would want to make sure that people who were trained to handle this kind of thing were going to be the ones to take care of it.

    Hope everything turns out okay!

  5. salmonella poisoing isn't only  from not washing hands. its also from food like undercooked eggs, raw meats. it could also be from your very own kitchen.  if you didn't properly clean after cooking meat.  maybe it was on the counter.

just let them know.asap. so they can make sure they are taking precautions to protect other kids. i would try to control the rage because these people didn't purposely say, "i want to give there beautiful baby girl salmonella poisoning"
