There are ten non-permament members, elected by the General assembly for a 2 year term.

There's the General Assembly and also the Security Council. I'll defer to MonMon on the number of nations in the Assembly but the Council has permanent members: U.S. France, China, Russia & the U.K. plus, a few others who sit on a rotational basis.

There are moves afoot to also make countries like Brazil and India permanent members too.
