I have NEVER been in a wreck...never gotten a ticket for running red lights...only a few speeding tickets in college. Basically I am a very safe driver. AND THESE CRAPPY CAMERAS ARE DRIVING ME INSANE. I am a nervous wreck when I get near one...especially when I am at the end of a long line at the light and am sure it will turn yellow by the time I get up there and it doesn't! then it turns yellow when i am in the middle of the intersection...Am i the only one with this issue? I have to go through two of these twice a day.

  1. Better safe than sorry; don't block the intersection.

  2. First of all,  why would you be in the middle of an intersection with nowhere to go?  I hate people like you.  Don't you look ahead of your car and have respect for other traffic?  Second of all, why are you worried about a camera unless you are blowing lights?  Have you gotten a ticket?  Maybe you should and also the answer to your question is no, I don't believe they can hold up in court unless they can prove who the licensed driver is operating the vehicle.  If someone drives your car and disobeys a traffic law, who gets the ticket?  you or the person driving?

  3. well when im in atlanta instead of at college their are those stupid things put up like EVERYWHERE, and i actually almost got into a really bad wreck because of one, the streets were icy and i was halfway through a left turn when the light turned yellow making me want to go faster to get through it... i honestly am beginning to believe that they are prone to making accidents happen even though they are supposed to be helpful!

  4. Don't worry about them...There not in use anymore. Just there to scare now..

  5. If they are making you that nervous, then you are not as good a driver as you think.  Remember, all you can get from a camera is a ticket, no injuries, no damage, nothing that hurts.  We have them all over Winnipeg, and have had them for quite a few years.  I do not drive any different, and nobody should.  If you do not go through a red you will not get a ticket.  If you do go through a red, you will get a ticket, and you should, it is a simple as that.

The way our cameras are set up, there are 2 pictures.  the first shows you entering the intersection after the light has turned, the second shows you actually in the intersection.  Simple, no argument.  If you have entered on yellow, there is no first pictre, and the reviewing officer pulls it from the list, unless the radar indicates you were going at a high rate of speed.  In that case, you get a speeding ticket.

I have probably passed through camera-controlled intersections thousands of times.  If some day, I make an error in timing, and get a ticket, I will not be happy, but I will pay it because I will deserve it.  To date, that has not happened.

Anybody that claims they had an accident, or almost had an accident because of a camera is, in my opinion, ill-qualified to be on the road.   I speak from the perspective of 42 years of driving experience.  I speak from the perspective of one who has taught drivers, and taught them well.

I mean, think about it logically.  Do shoplifters claim the cameras in stores make them so nervous they shoplift?  Do surgeons in operating rooms claim the cameras make them so nervous they cut off arms instead of setting broken bones?  Do pro bowlers claim the cameras make them throw gutter balls instead of strikes?

  6. They are there for your safety as well as making money, don't worry about them and drive by the rules of the road.

  7. eh.....i just dont get why this bothers you?

  8. I have mixed feelings:

    1. They are good. Too many people are running reds these days. VERY dangerous.

    2. Though they SAY it's for safety, I think it's $$$$. The camera doesn't take any days off, no vacations, sick days, and doesn't get a pension at the end, so they SAVE a lot of money vs. hiring more cops, and MAKE more money 24hrs-7 days a week.

OH. You will NOT get a ticket for going through on a yellow. ONLY if the light is red when you enter the intersection.
