It has nothing to do with Ireland. You are in the wrong section.  It belongs to the UK.

The only thing it has to do with here is the legend (note the word!) that Fionn McCumhail took a piece of land out of Northern Ireland in a rage one day and flung it into the Irish Sea.  Legend has it that the gap left is Lough Neagh and the piece of land became Isle of Man.

If you believe the Isle of Man is in Ireland or is Irish you just might believe the legend!

For this rock is part of Ireland, 'cos it' s written in folklore

That Fionn MacCumhaill took a sod of grass and he threw it to the fore,

Then he tossed a pebble across the sea, where ever it did fall,

For the sod became the Isle of Man and the pebble's called Rockall.

Hmm...I've been once. It's tiny. Everyone knows everyone else. If you stay for a week, everyone will know you and you will know everyone by the end of it. The teenagers are bored and lustful. The adults suffer cabin fever most of the year and survive on back fence talk. However, it's beautiful, and has a lot of fresh air and people are very friendly...if only out of a desperate need to talk to someone new!

Its not bad can be a bit boring wen the TT races arnt on but the best bit....... take your car once your outside the villages THERE'S NO SPEED LIMITS (bring a motor bike) and no speed cameras lol have fun

Neither part of Republic of Ireland or United Kingdom, being a self governing island in the middle of the Irish Sea (St George's Channel). Folklore says that its the same size as Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland.

Used to be more of a tax haven then it is now. Has its own bank, government.

Landing at the airport is a hairy experience as it looks like you going to land in the sea.  Capital is Douglas which is also the main ferry port with year round connections to England and seasonal services to Belfast and Dublin.

Much of the island is past its prime, which I guess is its charm, but it really is chicken and egg!  Invest more and get more tourists or become a self fulfilling proficy of declining tourism due to lack of development and investment.

Road racing still legal ie Manx TT (motor bikes).

When flying to Belfast most flight start their decent over the IOM, which is usually obscured by an IOM shaped cloud.  Ferries en route from Belfast to LIverpool have to shelter in the IOM if the Irish Sea gets too rough.  

People friendly, and genuinely seem interested in visitors.

It's a self-governing island. It has nothing to do with Ireland, apart from the fact that the languages Manx and Irish are very similar, and the Fionn Mac Cumhaill legend mentioned above.

It's beautiful but you'll have to like fish and accept that you'll be there for a long time.

Recently shown on the BBC 'Coast' series, it was used as a prison camp during WW2 to keep foreign nationals away from strategic areas.

I would love to visit it and would think seriously about settling there if I ever got the chance.

I think the scenery and the isolation would appeal to me, inspiring me to write more...
