  1. Ahhhhh the great steak debate. I am a huge fan of steaks and have been to what are considered the best places in the world. My favorite is Smith & Wollensky in Manhattan. They have the greatest aged porterhouses ever.  You have to ask about it as its not on the menu, though there other steaks are great too.

Peter Luger's in Brooklyn is also considered one of the best and they are d**n good, but I like Smith & Wollensky better. Also be warned Luger's is cash only unless you have an account with them. My family has one but I don't know how that happens.

As for how to cook it, I like mine "Pittsburgh Style" and any place that doesn't know what that is, isn't a real steakhouse or a real steak chef at least and I wouldn't eat their steak. Pittsbugh style means that it is put on a high flame and crisped up on the outside, a little blackened so the outside fat is crispy and delicious, seals in the flavors, but the inside is still medium rare. This is like Black and Blue but with a little more cooking inside. Black and Blue means crispy outside and blood rare in the middle.

Anyone who orders a stake anything more than medium is just killing the flavors and the tenderness. I worked in a high end restaurant and someone ordered a filet mignon well done and the chef refused to do it! She had to order something else and the chef was ready to throw her out for such blasphemy. SO if you want to sound like you know what you are doing, order it Pittsburgh style, or at least Medium-Rare or less. A great steak should be eaten this way.

I have also been to Morton's and Ruth Chris' and many others so I hope this has been helpful.

Wow, that made me hungry! :-)

  2. A local market that has a butcher that cuts the meat in store.  Nothing against a Super Walmart if you want some ground beef, but for a really good steak, you need a butcher on site.  My favorite cut is the Porterhouse at about 1" to 1.25" thick.  I cook it on my grill until medium rare (light brown on the outside and light/medium pink throughout with the juices free flowing).  Add some salt and just a little pepper.  Using any sort of "steak sauce" on such a fine piece of meat would be criminal!

  3. Houstons in Scottsdale Az. I like my steak medium and with it you are served super skinny french fries fried in peanut oil. Surprisingly they didnt taste like crunchy potato sticks. You also get fresh cole slaw. The steak is big and the atmosphere is western. It is a 5 star restaurant and a lot of celebrities eat there. I have seen the Phoenix Suns players, Paris Hilton, and Vin Diesel. They discourage you from bothering the celebrities.

  5. My grill @ home & medium rare!
