Recently in a speech in New Hampshire, Barach Obama commented that "words" are very important for it took a man that stood for the civil rights of a people to speak out against injustices. Hillary Clinton responded by saying it took a president to change legislation to bring about those civil injustices. What is your take on that comment, and is she correct or daft to believe that words don't inspire people to take a look and challenge the norms that society may inflict upon individuals in a suppressed society?

  1. Because racism hasn't ended and it eventuallly killed him.

  2. I believe his words made Washington take notice of what they really had to deal with I think that a voice can change the world if enough ppl listen and believe I thank God for Martin Luther King he was a very strong man he stood for his rights and the right of others Clinton was trying to state that I think

  3. It's funny because my political science professor told me that all the demonstrations and sit-ins that occurred during the civil rights era did nothing to help the cause. I refuse to believe this because marching on washington obviously had an effect on America. I think that actions as well as words inspire us all in some way or another. Not doing something is just an action as doing something. Not saying anything is just as an action as saying all you can say. She is a fool to believe that Nixon and LBJ were not inspired (whether they had their own agenda or not) to bring about change in the civil rights era. However, i think that she only wanted to argue with what Obama said just to hype up herself, i dont think she is that ignorant.

  4. words are words...period...but Dr King had words...and action...before him...there were just words...but until the people in Washington change the laws...the actions and words go into a void.....sitting at my home in Kansas City bitching about things does me no good...unless i go to where it makes a difference....Hillary shook hands with the man and was politically involved way back then...she may not be your choice for president...but she deserves her props!!!

  5. She is daft and people in the streets brought about the changes of the 60's, not LBJ.

And- kkmc06, my pops was a cop in the Chicago riots, he knows the REAL truth about the 60's, your prof does not.  (You'd be surprised on his social and political stances, not what you expect from a cop of that era)
