from Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

The greatest punishment we could invent for her was to keep her separate from him, yet she got chided more than any of us on his account.

I wonder if & how the second part of the above sentence could mean that he chided her more than any of us.

  1. "On his account" means because of him. Hope that helps.


  2. It means that "she" took the brunt of the punishment, but it doesn't really make much sense out of context.
