Tell me what to do to get my cat to like me again!

I bought our cat when I was a kid and he loved me but then I moved away for 4 years after college. Now that I'm back home, he swats at me when I try to pet him. How do I get him to trust me again?

TREATS...

get somthing your cat LOVES... and start feeding it treats.

then treat /// petting/// treat.

eventually it will think  "Nice person = treats"

He may just be punishing you now too.

keep trying the treat thing though.

Just like the others said...give it time. Just like people, it takes us some time to warm back up and trust people again. You left your baby (that's what he might think) so how does know you're not going to leave him again?

Give it time and treat him of course! They love treats! Does he still like to play with string or toys?

He'll come around...

cats will be cats, leave him alone for a while but make sure you are the one that feeds him.  He should come back around in time, don't force it.

Most cats are one person owner, if you left your cat when someone else the cat is probably now loyal to them. You can't make the cat love you again. It is his choice.
