Tell me what you think about this used car purchase???

It's a 1999 Ford Windstar LX

73850 miles

Comes from a new car dealership that does a 156 point inspection

VIN 2FMZA5149XBB78058

I have not bought a carfax report, but it says it has 9 records in the database, which from what I understand is on the low end which is good-I think.

They will print out a report at the dealership if I want it.

If you need to know anything else let me know but tell me if this would be a good purchase.

Is it too many miles for a domestic?

  1. really its not bad for mile when most cars will run into the 400,000 range if taken care of..... its not the miles you have to look for its the shape its in and you cant believe what you get from dealer... you have to check it out your self.....first by walking a round it and look at tires for uneven wear... down the sides for discolor and dents... check the tail pipe for black or wet.... you look under it for wet spots on the ground and on the bottom of... you open the hood and check the oil and fluids... looking at the motor for any signs of leaks.... then you start it listen how fast it starts and if you hear any ticking or knocks..... then you check every button and switch... then you drive it 30 minutes checking tha take off and braking... how it steers... when you get back you recheck everything again and then decide.... i can give you a 156  point report from here it will mean about the same... you as the driver or buyer is the one that has to check the car out you find any signs of what i listed any kind of oil leak or wet spot best you walk....if you have any questions about how it drives or how it starts walk a way....best you check it out and dont listen to the sells pitch 70,000 is not that many miles my van as 180,000 my car has over 200,000 my motorcycle has over 70,000 all are fine....

  2. first :   that Ford is not 1999 it is a 2000 . because VIN code inculding the * X *  in cell of ten if you calculated from left to right.

second: cause the fisrt cell is number 2 .it mean  that ford are manufactured form Canda .it mean it is not a domestic.

  3. Don't show us your VIN number, people can find you, steal your identity,or steal it to register a stolen van.I recommend you edit your question,do it now!..EDIT.....In my defence....My Mama didn't raise no fool,....If I had less than scrupulous values that info would be useful, for those who may be undesirable it's a tag.I've never seen a private sale offer that publicly or info on a classic car site ever show the VIN.Yes a Dealership maybe but I haven't seen one....P.S.I reserve the right to be wrong, but I would rather be safe than sorry.I'm big on security breaches.

Edit,..Forgot to answer your question, the reason I clicked on it.

I think the mileage is below the aprox.,100,000 miles it would have,I'd guess the van was used only to travel to & from work. When I look at a vehicle,I look first at the drivers seat, the wear & tear on it,like the back where the driver gets in & out,the feel of the seat, spring, etc.I look at the floor pedals for wear, esp. the brake.I look at the drivers door, dash dials, switches,& carpet areas esp hauling area for wear or damages.I take my time,I don't want to feel rushed,so I may sit a ways a way & look at the sight lines in & out straightness & level,if the seller is telling you to hurry up go else where. What I think of the this particular car purchase is...with the low mileage & 156 point inspection,I take it this to be a reputable dealer. The big 3 automakers make many of the mini vans in Canada,esp.Chrysler.Take the print out & read it.If the price is right & you like it you should make your offer & buy it.Keep in mind that around 135,000 miles the the Knick-Knack things begin to happen, first major one will probably be the transmission.

  4. That is low miles for a car of that year.

Get the dealer to print that carfax thing out for you. If they are willing to the vehicle must be clean.

If i were you i would sign up for the carfax thing. Its well worth it. I recently used it while searching for a used car and was glad i did. It helped me find out the truth about a couple cars that had been in serious wrecks and one that had the mileage rolled back.  It only costs like 30 bucks for a subscription.

If the price sounds fair and this is the kind of vehicle you want take it to a 3rd party mechanic to get it checked out.

Oh and to the person saying you shouldnt have posted that VIN number because someone will steal your identitly or steal the van-thats about the most insane thing ive read here in days. Everyones VIN number of every car is right up on the dash under the window for the world to see. Its not hidden and nobody can do anything with it-certainly not steal your identity. Go to any website advertising cars for sale. Many times they list that number along with the other info.
