  1. According to Consumers Reports (Kitchen Planning & Buying Guide 2008) their "Best Buy" is the Sears Kenmore Model 1374 (from $650)  .  .  . here's what they say about it:

    Rated excellent in terms of washing and ease of use.   Good performer in terms of energy use and noise.  Additionally, it has a self-cleaning filter, flatware slots and an adjustable top rack.


  2. I just dumped my expensive stainless steel kitchenaid dish washer on the curb for garbage pickup because it was garbage and replaced it with an inexpensive amana that does a great job.

  3. Maytag or Kenmore. Stick to the models with the plastic liners inside to keep the costs down. Stainless steel ones are great, but way overpriced. Also look at all the different cycles and types of washes and consider going with a model that only offers a couple of options instead of 6 different types of washes. If you ask anybody who owns a dishwasher, they'll tell you that they leave it set to one type of cycle and don't even know what the other ones do. :-)
