This is no joke either perhaps it was because the Whiskey is VERY, VERY old? I will admit this was my first glass of whiskey

Vomiting happens when the stomach lining gets irritated with the contents. Since your stomach did not take to the alcohol well, being your first time, the inside of the stomach was irritated by the alcohol and this resulted in retching, causing forcible ejection of the contents.
This is the technical reason.
Now the next time, sip slowly, and let your stomach lining get used to it. Eating about 20grams of butter before consuming alcohol could help.... but you wouldnt be able to 'time' your high... and the whisky would hit you harder and with more suprise.
