we need to shut down the tree huggers and let the oil companys drill for oil here and we would not have to depend on the other countries to supply us.

  1. NIMBY: Not In My BackYard. Thats the number one reason. Everyone wants to live with only benefits and no cost. And having an refinery in your city is a cost.

Pretty much the same reason why brain dead Ted didn't want a wind farm blocking his view of the ocean front. (he was brain dead before the cancer)

Besides though honestly drilling isn't the main problem. Our problem is the maxed out refineries. So even replacing imported crude oil with our crude oil we still won't be able to refine all we need. That is why we import 13% of gasoline. And that number will continue to rise until we start increasing our refining capacity.

  2. You're wrong! Never mind the tree huggers: we need to use up the worlds oil at what ever price we can make them take through force of arms until its all gone and then sell them our oil at what ever price we want! That's the way you do it!

EDIT: Hear, Hear Sockmess, "Our problem is the maxed out refineries. So even replacing imported crude oil with our crude oil we still won't be able to refine all we need. That is why we import 13% of gasoline. And that number will continue to rise until we start increasing our refining capacity." I'm glad that at least ONE other person knows the truth!

  3. Not everyone, that's for certain.  It is the environmentalists that believe harm will come to some fish or caribou or some other form of  wildlife, even though it has been proved that drilling can be made safe woithout destroying any of the environment or species of animal or plantlife.

And the fact that some would just like to keep us dependent on foreign oil.  The whole concept of this country was for people to maintain independence from anty type of oppression.

I would gladly let them drill, build refineries, or have a nuclear plant in my back yard, if it meant we could all remain free.

  4. Agreed. But it ain't gonna happen, man.

Especially not now; not in this political environment where the whiny get the most attention.

"Environmentalism!" is their battle cry. They say the Alaska pipeline hurt the animals up there. Lie. The truth? Caribou herds got bigger because more ground was protected year round by the pipes themselves, resulting in more food for them.

They claim offshore drilling will ruin the seas. Lie. The truth? The platforms in the gulf didn't lose one drop of oil during Katrina, the storm of the century; despite sitting right in the middle of the worst of it.

The workers fish right off of the platform and eat those fish for dinner.

All the major disasters have been from oil ships. The ones that import oil from overseas. This is preferable to the tree humpers. Another Exxon Valdez if preferred over our own independent oil production.

    Stupidity annoys me.

  5. YOU'RE RIGHT ON THIS ONE. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THE ENVIRONMENTALISTS THAT SEEM TO HOLS SWAY OVER THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON MCCAIN HAS DECIDED TO COZY UP TO THESE MANIACS.

  6. When America made deals to buy oil from these countries there put in a clause that these countries would also pay American debts, that's why America inports oil.
