Question

A kings daughter fell in love with a farm boy

the princess wants to Marry the farm boy

so she tells her dad he said no but then he said

he has to do a test and the test is,

there are two bits of paper in a box one says marry the

other says banish the king talks to his high people

and says he is going to cheat and put two papers that

say banish the princess hears what her dad said

and told the farm boy,

the farm boy said that he has an idea.

on the day day he picks a paper out of the box which both

papers say banish and he gets married to the princess.

How did he do it?

knowing that they both said banish, he took the first one and ate it, or somehow got rid of it, then picked up the second one and said that since it said banish, the first one he picked said marry.

he chose a piece that would have said banish but before anyone could see it he disposed of it quite cleverly like pretending to trip and throw it in a fireplace. he would then suggest that they just see the other piece and everyone (except the king, his high people, the princess and the farm boy) would think that the boy must have chosen the oppostie piece of paper thus having the oppposite outcome to what would have happened if he chose the remaining piece instead of the one he actually did choose. The king would then be forced to oblige to the peoples beleifs for he would not want to cause a threat to his throne by creating an uprising when he would have to explain.

in his hand he held a piece that said 'marry', but no one could see. so what he did was he reached into the box, took a piece of paper that was already in there, slipped it up his sleeve and pulled out the one that was in his hand. Hence, he could marry the princess.
