my brother cut a gash in our basement sofa with my pocket knife. he just did it without thinking. then i went down and i saw it and i got mad at him and he didnt care. he was kinda a jerk too cuz his frend was there too and he always does that around his frends. then i told on him and my parents flipped out and now hes in a lot of trouble (i only expected him to get yelled at) and now i feel kinda guilty. i havent talked to him since i told so i think hes gunna be mad at me. should i be guilty? should i have told?

  1. i know we all have heard that no one like a tattle tale. however, when it comes to things like this i think you made the right choice. something like this can mean your brother needs to talk to someone about something that may be bothering him. like an other said, he may be hanging out with the wrong people. you may have done your brother a favor! try to think about the good outcomes of letting your parents know. he'll get over it and won't be mad at you forever! you did fine! cheer up. ps. tell your brother you were just worried about him. he may still not respond cuz he's 16 but he will let it go after a while. he just needs to work through it for himself. he may feel ashamed. so, just be patient.

  2. just be happy he is a brother and not a sister.

My opinion is that Your lucky you told because next time he may not ruin the couch it may be something like a store window that he could get in worse trouble with...maybe he will learn a lesson from it.

  3. Well tbh you shouldn't feel guilty. It was probably the 'right' thing to tell. If you do something, there should be consequences.

Your brother may dissagree however because as far as he's concerned you 'snitched' on him. And you and him are suppossed to stick together against your parents. Not tell on each other.

It depends what way you look on it. Your brother may be pretty pissed off at the moment so give it time and space then maybe apologies. Just to get everything better again. But be careful, because you may have destroyed his trust and now he may not always keep everything you do secret. He may choose to get revenge when you go through your teenage years.

  4. well i dont think its so bad but y would he do that? his hanging with the wrong ppl

  5. Well maybe I am the wrong person to answer this but here it goes. What kind of person is your brother? Would he sell you out even though you didn't do it? I mean your parents would have found out anyway. There is a question of loyalty though. What was his punishment? Would he miss something really important to him? And why did he have your pocket knife?

  6. You did the right thing.  He destroyed property plain-and-simple.  Consequences are hard sometimes but that is what life's lessons are all about.

  7. You shouldn't feel guilty.

You did the right thing by telling your parents.

  8. no don't feel guilty. he needs to hang with different people who want him to be him

  9. No you should not feel guilty. Your parents would have found out anyway.
