Question:

Temper tantrum at two months?

My 2 month daughter holds her breath, throws her arms up and makes tight fists, legs are straight out stiff then her face turns? This has happened on a few occasions after she's been in my arms and I go to put her down for a diaper change or to sleep. Has anyone experienced the same? Could she be having a temper tantrum?

  1. i REALLY dont think its a tantrum. shes too young for that. she maybe trying to let you know something, and you just dont understand what it is. ask ur pediatrician asap.  it might be colic, or she just need to be soothed, but its definetly not a tantrum. good luck

  2. Babies scream, and some babies scream "madder" than others.  It's not a "temper tantrum" at two months old.

Sometimes if a baby has colic they feel warm and snuggly and not so uncomfortable in their mother's arms.  If they're put out flat it may make them scream again.  (What your describing sounds like what they do when they're in pain, such as with colic.)

Then again, she may just be a screamer.  New babies (and she's pretty new) don't have control over their muscles, so if they tense up they'll tense up all their muscles.

Where you say it's been a few occasions I'm wondering if she may have had gas or colic on those occasions.  Babies with calm, comforting, mothers and colic often do stop crying when they're being held; while colicky babies with frazzled mothers may not.
