Question:

Tempo of breathing to optimize running endurance?

When running, breathing speeds up, the usual result of cardiovascular activity.

If I want to keep running longer, i.e. not become so tired that I have to walk, is it better to deliberately keep my breathing slow and deep, or should I allow it to become naturally faster?

This is for a novice "runner."

  1. when i am running long distance i slow increase my breathing the first mile in try to keep it under control and after the 2 mile i push it and start to let the breathing get faster. and when i get around the last mile which is usually 5 or 6 or sometimes 7 when i feel good lol i push it. so try to control your breathing for a while and then just let it go naturally its ok to breath though your mouth.
