Question:

Temporary employment question...

I just got an offer for employment for 2 weeks. Later I got another call asking if I was available for a 3 month assignment that might go permanent. The latter is closer and pays the same. My question is what should I do if I get offered the second one and already accepted the first. They are from 2 different agencies and I don't want to tick anyone off. At this point, I need permanency and if offered an opportunity for a longer assignment that might go permanent is what I'm looking for. What should I do? I think if offered the 2nd choice, I should go with it, but how do I inform the agency which offered me the 2 week assignment if offered the 3 month one?

  1. Ifr you get the second job, call the first agency and tell them you are sorry, but you aren't going to be available for the job they have you scheduled for.

  2. Take the second job but be sure to explain to the first agency why you cannot work for them.

  3. Take the 3 month assignment.  The other agency will have other candidates but you need the assignment with more possibility of a permanent hire and benefits.

  4. You are free to decline any offer you have not officially accepted. Actually you can renege on your acceptance, but that's not considered very ethical.
