Every once in a while I lose the ability to hear only myself in my left ear. It has been going on for several years now but it usually only occurs when I'm doing something physical so I thought it may have something to do with dehydration but my doc said he'd never heard of that happening b4. Does anyone have any ideas bout what it could be or how to make it go away???

  1. I think your middle ear holds your body's balance. I'm surprised your dr. didn't tell you this espescially after you told him it happens after exercising. You may have to go to an ear, nose, and throat dr. who can tell you why there's hearing loss. Ask your dr. for a referral to an ENT dr to clear up the problem before you seriously lose your ability to hear and/or exercise.

  2. I suggest that you go to a ear doctor. it sounds like its in your inner ear, your inner ear might be filling up with fluid when you are active and it doesn't have time to drain before you are done with what you are doing, the inner ear is a very complex part of the body.    there is fluid that runs through the inner ear, but if you are having trouble with your ear  the inner ear is the problem, its not something you should wait on to get better, it could grow into something worse than you already have..   April

  3. An ear infection can and may cause temporary hearing loss; mainly a middle ear infection will clear up by itself and sometimes with antibiotics. But it is only temporary. A hit on the head or a hit to the ear will sometimes cause a temporary hearing loss. Depending on the injury, surgery may be required to reverse the damage.

Temporary hearing loss may occur as a result of an autoimmune disorder. This can be treated with a steroid called corticosteroid, this will strength the ear canal and bring the hearing that was lost back. Another hearing loss cause could be a build up of wax or fluid in the ears. Visit your doctor and have them test your ears and they could drain the ear of fluid or remove the wax.
