Question:

Temporary registration?

bought a new car from the dealership last july 26, they said that the permanent plate would arrive after a week and it has now been a month... the temporary registration will be expiring on sept 9. i called dmv and they said they haven't received anything from the dealership yet. 2 weeks after we bought the car though, the dealer called us to come down at their office to sign another contract, turned out we were denied credit by their own financing and was passed to another bank. we were not able to come down because we were so busy that week. so i guess my question is.... could that be the cause of the hold-up? was the signed contract necessary for them to apply for the permanent registration? but it them 2 weeks later to tell us that and remember they said that the permanent reg will come in just a week.

and does this mean that i cannot drive the car after 09/09???

what are your thoughts? thank you!

  1. First off I resent the remark made by Trixi or whatever he name is.  Car salesmen are not the problem, it is the owner and management of the dealerships that are the real problem.

Anyway what the dealer did to you is called a spot delivery.  If the sales manger has enough reason to believe you will be approved on a loan, they will give you the car on the spot so you do not have a chance to change your mind.

They give you a temp and figure if you are not approved and they cannot get you a loan, they will wait until the temp tag runs out, have you bring the car back to them for a "new plate", and then tell you the financing fell through and you have to leave the car.  This saves them money on having to pay someone to go get the car.  Another way to do the same thing in other states where the plate is not the issue is offer a free first oil change.  When the car comes into the shop, they keep it and inform you then.  It is a scum bag way of doing business, but the sales mangers push this method, not the salesman himself!!!

Most times if a dealer guarantees you credit or a car loan with bankruptcy etc., you can bet this program is in place.  Good luck.
