Question:

Temporary (wrong) NI number on payslip?

I have just started a new job and the first payslip I received shows a wrong National Insurance Number on it, despite the fact that I had given them my correct NI number well before they started working on payments etc. The number on my payslip begins with TN followed by my date of birth, so presumably it's a temporary number. I have pointed out their error to them and they've promised to correct it in the next payslip.

My question is, if they correct the number in the next month's payslip, will this month's NI contribution go in my real NI Number or would it be lost?

Also, should I insist on them issuing a corrected new payslip for this month as well? Thanks.

  1. Yes make sure they give you a corrected slip. That way you get credit for everything you have coming to you.
