Tempting rewards for Olympic medallists by PBSI – Badminton News
Indonesia, one of the leading countries in the world of badminton, is working hard to get the top spot in the game. For keeping their players focused on the 2012 London Olympics, the governing body of Badminton in Indonesia PBSI (Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh
Indonesia) has announced the tempting prize money of US$112,000 for those Badminton players who will emerge as winners in the Olympic Games, next year.
Secretary General of PBSI, Jacob Rusdianto, made this announcement earlier today.
For delivering a better performance in the 2012 London Olympics, PBSI is focusing on training 25 of their best players in the country. The governing body will be providing world class facilities to 25 selective players in all categories of the game including
the Men’s singles, Women’ singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’ Doubles and the Mixed Doubles.
The best available coaches are working hard to enhance the physical skills and mental tactics of the players, to enable them to perform well against the best shuttlers of the world.
Since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Indonesian shuttlers have always brought gold medals in the Olympic Games. In 1992, Alan Budikusuma and Susi Susanti won two gold medals in the Men’s and Women’s Singles categories. In the 2006 Atlanta Olympics, Ricky Subagia
and Rexy Mainaky from Indonesia won the gold medal in the Men’s Doubles category. In the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Tony Gunawan and Candra Wijaya grabbed the gold medal in the Men’s Doubles.
It was Indonesian shuttler, Taufiq Hidayat, who won the gold medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics in the category of Men’s Singles. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan won in the Men’s Doubles category and clinched the gold medal.
PBSI is looking forward to continue their winning tradition in Olympics. For making players more focused and well prepared for the coveted event, world class facilities are being provided to all shuttlers. Local hero, Taufiq Hidayat, who won the Olympic
gold in 2004, will hopefully be competing against top players from around the world.
Taufiq is ranked at Number Two in the world rankings of the Men’s Singles category. Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan will be defending their title in 2012 London Olympics, as they won the Olympic crown in Beijing in 2008.
Indonesia has a rich culture of badminton, where people follow the game religiously. However, the future of the game is fluctuating at the moment, when it comes to winning the title of Men’s Singles, where Chinese athlete, Lin Dan and Malaysian shuttler,
Lee Chong Wei, will be favourites for the title.
Together with Taufiq Hidayat, there will be two more Indonesian shuttlers, Simon Santoso and Sony Dwi Kuncoro, who will be competing for the Men’s Singles title in the 2012 Olympics. In the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, Taufiq Hidayat is the
only Indonesian player who is standing among the top ten.
