Ten NBA stars that need a prolific supporter to carry offensive burden: NBA Special Part-1
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the biggest basketball league in the World and winning an NBA title is the eventual goal for every team. Every year, entire league’s teams battle for Larry O’Brien trophy to be recognised as Champions.
A strong roster provides a tremendous help for winning the title but for a particular player to carry his franchise’s offensive burden alone is very difficult. A combination of two or three brilliant players always proves more productive than any individual
talent. Here is an overview of 10 current NBA players that need a prolific supporter to carry the offensive burden in the upcoming seasons.
Dirk Nowitzki:
The Dallas Mavericks’ forward Dirk Nowitzki is currently enjoying his long break from basketball court due to the ongoing NBA lockout. But as soon as the lockout will be lifted from the players, he will be back on court and will try harder to repeat last
season’s fantastic performance. Nowitzki played brilliantly throughout the whole last season and helped his team to win the Larry O’ Brien trophy after a 31-year struggle.
Despite the winning combination of the Mavericks, Nowitzki was the key man who single headedly shattered many opponents throughout the competition. His brilliant ball play proved helpful for his team at every stage of the competition. He played alongside
Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, Tyson Chandler, J.J Barea and Caron Butler. However, none of these players were truly influential in comparison with Nowitzki’s game. He virtually carried his team’s offensive burden alone and led his team to the NBA Finals.
The next NBA season is going to be tougher as every side is preparing quite hard and making different strategies to compete against their opponents. Though, the Mavericks are the current Champions but to repeat that kind of fabulous performance once again
will be a tough task for them.
According to some basketball experts, Dirk Nowitzki alone cannot win another title for the Dallas Mavericks. He needs some support now and the Mavericks need to include a prolific sidekick for Nowitzki if they want to win back-to-back titles.
Deron Williams: The New Jersey Nets took a great step last season when they decided
to acquire point guard Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz. After arriving in the Nets’ franchise, Williams started well.
However, down the stretch in several games, he looked alone and tired. No other Nets’ player came forward and shared the offensive burden with him. No doubt, he is one of the most productive point guards in the NBA, but he needs some more support from the
Nets’ roster as alone he cannot win a Championship for the Nets in the upcoming seasons.
After arriving in the New Jersey Nets, Williams only played a total of 12 games and averaged 15.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 12.8 assists per game. Overall his performance was pretty impressive in the 2010-11 season. He played a total of 65 games and averaged
20.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 10.3 assists per game.
Though, the Nets’ centre Brook Lopez will prove a good sidekick for Williams, but he still struggles over his rebounding and quick scoring abilities. He needs some more time to reach that level.
