Ten Year Olds and CPR?

How would you explain to a ten year old over text messages to give CPR?

I would Just have them call 911, the operater can give them instructions over the phone while they are waiting for the paramedics to arrive.

texting isn't the way to go if someone needs cpr. 9-1-1.

if it's not urgent, and they just want to know, tell them to take a class. many local places should offer them!

Tell the kid to take a CPR class.  Always call 9-1-1, but they should always be able to get the concept, because they would be able to keep the choking persone alive untill the medics get there.

I don't know how to do CPR, consult other answers for the process.  I'd appreciate best answer!

When   my  son  was  12   they  had  a  class  at  school.............

It  wasn't   even  3  months  later  he   saved  a  life    in  an  area   where  there   were  no  phones   ,,,,,,  this  was before  everyone  had  cell   phones,   hence   no  911......................

Its   important  that  youngsters   at  least  learn  the   concept of   CPR     ...........      they   could  keep  a person  alive  until  rescue   crews   get  there......   a few   moments  can make  a BIG   difference.................................

I  would  urge  you  to attend  a CPR  class   if possible or  have   your  school   Host  a Red   Cross    Program...........

A  Text  message   would be  extremely  difficult     ...........

CPR   needs   a   visual    or  hand s  on   lesson

You would tell the 10 year old to call 9-1-1.

Be sure he's flat on his back

Push his chin to tilt his head back a little and make sure there's no food or anything in his throat

Put your hands on his chest bone and push down, hard and sharp...do that 15 times

After 15 pushes, hold his nose and open his mouth...blow in his mouth two times

Repeat these steps

*Assumes the person recieving CPR is male

Why would you be texting a 10 year old on how to do CPR? If this is an emergency the 10 year old should be dialing 911, and having an amublance come. But I will give you the step by step on how to do cpr

1) Place your head close to the persons mouth to hear a pulse movement, if there's none then continue on to # 2

2) Open the other person mouth and pinch their nose

3) Breathe into the persons mouth for 10 seconds (no more then that)

4) Then to 30 chest compressions; push up/down on the persons chest, then go back to breathing in the person's mouth for 10 seconds

5) If there's something blocking the airway, take a finger and gently put it down the persons throat to scope out any debris

Keep doing the breathing in mouth for 10 seconds, followed by 30 chest compressions until a) the person starts breathing on their own, or b) the EMT's arrive

Don't keep breathing into the persons mouth, because it will inflate the lungs, causing them to burst.

If they are needing to perform CPR I don't think texting would be appropriate. 911 would offer much better and FASTER advice.
