Tenant in Tennessee. Can my landlord remove my property legally?

Can a landlord remove my personal property,furniture everything when the rent was only 5 days past due? I had always paid on or before time for the previous 12 months.

  1. NO - That is ILLEGAL in Any state.

    No landlord can just throw your stuff out if rent is late- they ALL have to go thru an eviction process with the court before they can remove you - even then they cannot just remove your stuff.

    Take him to court!!


  2. I also live in TN and I do not think it is legal for them to remove your personal property, they are to give you thirty days to remove your belongings. I would talk to someone at the court to see what matters can be taken on this because it is not legal.

  3. he may be able to if its in the written agreement. If children are in the house it could be up to 90 days. If there is no agreement written and its in a small town , watch out because they could do it even if its illegal and get away with it. Its like a 3rd world country dealing with hicks.

    If you have been threatened you should do whatever is possible to get out of there. You don't want to rent from someone like that anyway.
