  1. a; change all locks, period

b; call an atty and inform the people that the letter is not in your

control or property. YOU know nothing about it.

c; nicely, inform the atty to tell the people that they are NOW

considered trespassers.  They are not even permitted to visit

    old friends ON YOUR PROPERTY.

  2. If you want to play nice, ask them to leave their current address and phone number and tell them you'll contact them if you notice any of their mails. Leave a note to the new tenant to turn all the mails not in his name to you so you will screen it before dumping into the trash.

If you don't really care, write a warning to the old tenant that it's their responsibility to notify the post office of their forwarding address and they can't disturb your current tenant and if they do it again, you will call the cop.

  3. If you just want them to stop bothering you about a letter you know nothing about, then you most certainly can call the police and ask for their assistance.  That's what they're there for.  They will be happy to talk to the people who are bothering you and let them know they are not welcome on your property or your rental property.

If they continue to bother you, then you should be able to file a restraining order against them.  It's possible that they can also receive a disorderly conduct ticket for continuing to bother you and your new tenant after they've been officially informed not to (by the police, of course).  No one has the right to constantly come on your property and ring your doorbell, especially when they've been told not to.  The police's job is to keep the peace; give them a call and allow them to help you.

  4. I would tape up a big NOTICE on my door and the rental door saying

IF I HAD YOUR LETTER, I WOULD GIVE IT TO YOU.

I HAVE ASKED THE POSTMAN TO HELP FIND IT.

    I DON'T HAVE YOUR LETTER.

IF IT WOULD HELP, I WILL GET YOU A NOTARIZED STATEMENT SAYING THAT NEITHER I NOR THE NEW TENANTS HAVE YOUR LETTER.

I KNOW HOW FRUSTRATING THIS IS. I KNOW YOU WANT YOUR LETTER.  I DON'T HAVE IT AND NEVER GOT IT.

a policeman won't help you.  People have the right to ring your doorbell.  I put a note like this on a front door when the person kept coming over every night.  He finally stopped when he saw the notice../

  5. If you really don't have the letter and can't help them find it, tell them straight up you don't have it.  If they are waiting for it to be mailed, let the new tenant know to look out for it so you can get these people off your back and for everyone's safety.

Tell them if they keep bothering you, you will call the police. They have already done enough for you to call the police by breaking in.
