Tendulkar, the ‘Little Master’ wins 2 ICC Awards
India’s batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar was rewarded for his outstanding run in international cricket in 2010 with the ICC Cricketer of the Year Award. Moreover, Sachin also clinched the People’s Choice Award that was handed out for the first time in the
short history of the ICC awards.
It was a star-studded event in Bangalore with the cream of present and former international cricketers gathered to honour the top performances of the year.
Tendulkar, who continues to grow from strength to strength even when he is at the twilight of one of the greatest sporting careers ever, was as usual humble in his approach. The player thanked his teammates for their support.
"This last season has been really special for the entire team," Tendulkar, said. "I think right from the start of the season, when we won in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and I scored a hundred in the finals, and from there on the season took off for
us. We became No. 1 in the Test rankings, something we all wanted to achieve, and we've been able to maintain our performances in the last ten months."
Tendulkar heaped praise on former South African opening batsman and current coach of the national team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527. Sachin opined that his renewed approach to batting has resulted due to the efforts and guidance from Gary Kirsten
who was regarded as one of the best batsmen of his era.
"He has been instrumental in making all the batters play plenty of deliveries in practice sessions, he himself throws thousands of deliveries," Tendulkar said. "Gary has been able to keep us in the right frame of mind, whatever areas
we needed to work on, he is making sure we are addressing that."
Tendulkar had a monumental season even from his incredibly high standards.
During the period of consideration for the award that ran from August, 2009 to August, 2010 the champion from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 amassed 1064 runs, at an average of 81.84 in 10 Test matches.
He was also equally successful in the 50 over format where he opened the innings for his country, scoring 914 runs in 17 ODIs at an average of 65.28.
During this astonishing period, Tendulkar also smashed the first ever double century in a 50 overs international, scoring an amazing 200 not out against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Gwalior this year.
He erased the memories of Pakistani left hand opener Saeed Anwar in 1997 when the great scored 194 at Chennai against an Indian team led by Tendulkar himself.
Tendulkar, who started his international career in 1989 at the tender age of 16 in a test match against arch-rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at the National Stadium in Karachi, has transformed into a legend for fans across the globe.
He has the record for most runs and most centuries in both test and ODI cricket. Due to his achievements, Sachin has served as a role model for young cricketers. There was hardly any doubt that he was to win the People’s Choice Award as he has a massive
fan following in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and the world.
Even at the age of 37, Tendulkar continues to be a real threat for the opposition and is extremely difficult to dislodge in test cricket.
In the ODI format, the ‘Little Master’ has cut down on his stroke play and has concentrated on staying at the wicket in 50 over cricket. His real target is to help India win the 2011 World Cup that is set to be played in the sub-continent.
The final of the event will be played in Mumbai and Indian fans would be praying for a Tendulkar century in the final game which would be an ideal ending to a fairytale career. And with Sachin Tendulkar, this is definitely not a distinct possibility.
