2010 has been a magnificent year for the World record holding batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar has achieved many records this year increasing the number of overall records he has made. In the modern era there has been no batsman
who has been able to achieve what Tendulkar has in his illustrious career. He had recently been nominated in the Laureus World Sports Award for the Best Sportsman of the Year. He was also named the International Cricket Council Player of the Year owing to
his excellent achievements this past year. He will be competing against the likes of Rafael Nadal, Sebastian Vettel and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muttiah-Muralitharan-c78157.
Sachin Tendulkar has been very consistent and ever so reliable in this year breaking many records. He became the first ever cricketer to score an individual double century in an ODI match. He remained unbeaten in the marathon innings
which he played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482
running for him most of the innings. Charles Coventry’s unbeaten 194 came against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
Sachin also became the first ever cricketer to score more than 14,000 runs in Test match cricket. His runs came against the Australian team in October this year. This was his 171st match in which he also scored his 49th
century.
Muttiah Muralidtharan is also one of the nominees. The magical off-spinner took his 800th wicket on the final day of the last Test he played in international cricket. He had set this record in July 2010 at the Galle
cricket stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 was the only bowler nearest to the spin wizard Murali.
Sebastian Vettel and Rafael Nadal will also be tough opponents for the two great cricket legends. Vettel ended the 2010 Formula One season as Champion and secured ten pole positions out of the 19 races in the season. On the other
hand the tennis ace Rafael Nadal also ended the season being number one in the ATP rankings. He would also have high hopes to be the winner of the best sportsman award.
It would be a great achievement for Tendulkar if he gets this award. It would add to the fantastic year he has had. He holds the record of the highest runs in both ODI and Test cricket. He also has the maximum number of centuries
in both formats of the game. If he gets the award, it would be truly deserving. All of his fans would be hoping that he gets the award and does his country proud again as he has done all these years by piling so many runs against the best of the teams.
The Laureus World Sports Award will be held in 2011. The winner of the award would be announced on the 7th of February, 2011. The jury that decides the winner is made up of 46 of the world’s greatest sportsmen and sportswomen.
The winner of the award would be declared during a televised ceremony which would be held in Abu Dhabi.
