Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin joins Malaysian national team in training camp for Asian Champions Trophy
Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin, Malaysian national hockey team player has returned to the national training camp after recovering from a hamstring injury and the inclusion of the veteran player will boost the team’s spirit in the Asian Champions Trophy going to be
played in Ordos, China from September 3 to 11. The seasoned forward was injured during the Abdul Razak Cup played in Malacca last month.
The veteran striker did not participate in the five test match series against the Japanese national side last week which eventually finished at 2-2 level. The Japanese scored victories in the first two games while the next two remained in favour of Malaysia
and the final ended in a draw.
“I had a good run last month, I believe I played well in the playing tour of Europe especially in Spain and in the Razak Cup,” Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin told about his previous performance and the fitness.
The experienced striker Tengku Ahmad told that he was frustrated on having not participated in the series against Japan but at the same time he looked confident to confirm his place in the national side for the upcoming Asian Champions Trophy.
“My injury towards the end of Razak Cup disrupted my preparations for the Asian Champions Trophy. Now I have to work harder to regain my form and a place in the national team. I don’t think that the team didn’t play well without me against Japan in the
friendlies,” Tengku Ahmad further added to his views.
Malaysia will start their Asian Champions Trophy campaign against Pakistan, the Asian Games Champions, on the opening day of the event and Tengku Ahmad is hopeful to be in action in the opener against the Greenshirts.
He also regarded the Greenshirts as the best side in Asia against which their previous record was not impressive enough. Only time will tell if the inclusion of Tengku Ahmad will improve the performance of the Malaysian squad in the tournament. It will be
interesting to see how Malaysia manages to take on the top teams in the world.
