Tennessee Titans' rookie quarterback Jake Locker makes impressive comeback – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans' rookie quarterback Jake Locker made a strong comeback on Sunday despite the fact he fell short to help Titans to avoid defeat against Atlanta Falcons.
Locker had appeared for two games for the Titans in the current regular season of the National Football League (NFL), the American football's premier league. However, those appearances were inconsiderable with Tennessee win over
Cleveland Browns and their loss to Houston Texans. His participation was minimum.
He got a real chance in the third quarter of Tennessee’s game against Falcons after Titans regular quarterback Matt Hasselbeck reportedly suffered an elbow strain. He was made to site on the sideline for the remaining game.
With Matt certain to not come back in the rest of the game, Locker showed some skills. He threw two touchdown passes. Despite that the rookie star finished 9-of-19 passing for 140 yards and two touchdowns, he remained short of
giving a hope to Tennessee to prevent their loss against Falcons.
His performance meanwhile also sparked a controversy in the Titans that who will be quarterback starting position, Matt Hasselback or the rookie Locker.
Titans coach Mike Munchak immediately played down that if there was a question of such a controversy for the position, saying if Hasselbeck was back he definitely was at the position. The coach however was not certain about Matt's
injury, saying more testing was needed to determine his chances of recovery and comeback.
"We'll have to check him tomorrow and see exactly to what extent (the injury is)," Munchak told reporters. "He's sore, and that's why we took him out of the game."
Hasselbeck said it was the doctor’s decision not to allow him to be back on the field despite that he made failed attempts of throwing the ball."I don't think we really know anything right now," he said about his injury.
Locker after the game spoke to reporters, and said he enjoyed the game and respect of his teammates. He said he has respect for all players.
"I thought the guys stayed in and played hard...and we gave ourselves a chance at the end of the game," Locker said. "Atlanta's a great football team, and it's tough to come out of here with a loss, but I'm proud of how the guys
played and fought 'til the end."
