Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker deserves No. 1 role against Matt Hasselbeck – NFL News
Tennessee Titans’ second-year quarterback, Jake Locker, has it all what it takes to lead the offence and a majority of commentators believe the team should give him a shot at the starting position this season.
Matt Hasselbeck, the incumbent quarterback who is in competition with Jake for the No. 1 position, is seen having odds in his favour but another view is that the team will not be mistaken to start the 2012 National Football League (NFL)
season with Locker.
The notable point for the managers and coaches is that the player has proven during his appearances last season that he holds credentials for the top role.
In absence of the incumbent due to a calf injury, Locker was given an opportunity to lead the team’s offence and his performance during those unexpected appearances made the officials give a second thought to the plan as to who their next
starter should be.
Although the coach had then wisely left the role for the incumbent to avoid prolonging the controversy, the same question has popped up again. The team has left it down to performance on the field of each QB to answer the question itself.
Some sections of media called the talk of the competition as a mere dummy exercise and claimed the team is most likely to leave the starting position to Hasselbeck.
Some, however, do not see it to be a wise choice of the team. Titans themselves are yet to clarify the situation officially. The competition continues in the meantime.
Locker has many supporting voices within the entire football community. As a matter of fact, Titans coach, Mike Munchak, has admitted that a majority of questions posed to him about the competition are about Locker and his starting role.
A number of game analysts see this reasoning to be genuine. Their line of argument is if Titans are looking to groom a quarterback in the longer run, it is time for them to put Locker on the starting line more frequently.
The team will be gaining more but not lose anything if the player is given the chance.
