Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck keen to team up with former colleague Steve Hutchinson-NFL News
Tennessee Titans’ quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck, has said to be happy over the prospects of reunification with one of his old and best buddies of the Seattle Seahawks time, following the confirmation that the former teammate, guard, Steve Hutchinson, is joining
Titans on a three-year deal.
It comes as timely good news for Hasselbeck who has recently been made to be through probably the most difficult situation of his career due to the team’s all of sudden, but very ambitious pursuit of former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning.
Now, he is looking forward to the opportunity of playing with his former colleague at Titans and hopes they will be able to wage another successful partnership of the league.
Hasselbeck is appreciative of Hutchinson’s game skills and said that his form proved to be a good boost to his confidence and performance at Seahawks.
He hopes repeat of the same level of success at Titans after the player joins the team, sometime before training camp later this year.
He said of Hutchinson:
“He’s obviously a great player and was a great, great teammate in Seattle. We sort of fell apart when he left a little bit.”
Both players have played along each other with Seahawks from 2001 to 2005 and the tenure turned out to be the best time together they had in their respective careers.
They were known to be the best friends and teammates before falling apart, and the deepness of their friendship is obvious from Hasselbeck’s excitement over the opportunity to team up with Hutch again.
Titans have confirmed a three-year contract to Hutch but did not disclose value and other terms of the deal.
Hutch was released by the Minnesota Vikings in the current offseason and became an unrestricted free agent since start of the free agency on March 13, 2012.
Titans’ head coach, Mike Munchak, while confirming the deal, said that the team was looking forward to have him in the side next season.
According to the coach:
“The opportunity arose, and we thought it was a great fit for us. That was unexpected, but it worked out well. We think he has a lot of good football ahead of him.”
Hutch has remained a leading performer for Seahawks and has been selected for the Pro Bowl team seven times.
Meanwhile, following their failure in wooing Manning to Tennessee, Titans’ management has backed Hasselbeck along with rookie, Jake Locker, to be their future quarterbacks.
The encouraging statement from team’s owner, Bud Adams, who had been the frontrunner in Peyton’s pursuit, has finally brought a big relief for Matt, who during the talk around former Colts’ star QB, was lacking options and sense of direction in his career.
