Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck to appeal league fine – NFL News
Tennessee Titans veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck says he will appeal against the fine of $15,750 slapped on him by the National Football League (NFL) over his controversial collar tackle on Chicago Bears cornerback Kelvin Hayden.
Matt said there were so many jokes about the fine imposed on him but it is not funny that a quarterback who does not practice tackle should be fined without evidence.
He said that even Hayden has noticed the mistake and hopes to convince the league office to accept his plea against the penalty, which he says is not justified.
It is one of rare occasions that Hasselbeck has been fined over a tackle. He has played 14 years of professional football and there are only a few occasions that he has been made a subject of scrutiny.
Meanwhile, no one from the team’s front office has offered any remarks over the fine.
Although collar tackle is a serious foul, it does not occur too frequently. This is probably the fact that Hasselbeck is relying on. He said he knows the intent of the rule and therefore always tries his best to play safe and sound, for the sake of his and
other players’ safety.
Hasselbeck led the Titans to almost playoffs in the last season and has started this year for few games, although the main offence leader remains to be Jake Locker.
He might well start in the next game versus Miami Dolphins because clouds of uncertainty are still hovering over Locker’s recovery status. Coach Mike Munchak has hinted at giving a chance to the first-year starter if he is fit. Otherwise, Hasselbeck remains
on the starting line as long as Locker becomes available.
It will probably well before Sunday that Hasselbeck hears a decision on his plea, whether it is accepted or turned down. This however does not stand affecting his game status because he just received fine and not any suspension.
