Tennessee Titans TE Jared Cook seeks improvement in blocking, consistency - NFL News
Tennessee Titans’ tight end, Jared Cook, with his 15.5 yards per catch average was the second best among tight ends in the National Football League (NFL) last season, but the record does not satisfy him and he wants to improve his blocking and consistency
to fight off the “receiving tight end” tag.
Cook, a 6-foot-5 player who played at 246 pounds last season, has lately put on some weight as a part of his efforts to improve blocking.
He said:
"I am not satisfied. I want to get better at every phase and be a guy coaches can count on week in and week out. I want to be that complete tight end that everybody looks around the league and sees. That's what I am looking forward to."
A report in The Tennessean mentions that the player has been on the course of improving blocking and consistency.
Cook’s aim of improvement comes along with his hopes of renewal of his rookie deal with more benefits. He is in closing year of the rookie contract and apparently looks to see it redone at the earliest.
No official of the team management or the player’s agent has said anything about the start of the possible negotiations for the purpose and it looks like they are expected to work out and agree to fresh deal terms some time during the upcoming regular season.
Meanwhile, Titans’ tight ends coach, John Zernhelt, has backed Cook for his performance on the position, irrespective of the prevailing trend among players at the position to behave as receivers.
The coach said:
"Some guys at the position nowadays like to think of themselves as a receiver first. Cookie likes to see himself as a tight end where if called on he can do a good job. It is important to him. And he's been doing a great job."
He hopes that the player achieves greater success in his aims of improvement in his game without making any major shift in the position.
