Tennessee Titans WR Kenny Britt faces risk of second surgery for ACL, MCL, nothing final yet-NFL News
Tennessee Titans’ wide receiver, Kenny Britt, has suffered another setback to his knee injury, which has already cost him a couple years of his career.
Britt has been out of the squad since having surgery to repair anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) and medial collateral ligaments (MCL) in his right knee in 2011.
He was expected to be back to the side this year for sure, but according to coach, Mike Munchak’s recent statement, the player is on the risk of having another procedure to get the problem rectified.
Munchak said:
“I think it always is (possible). I don't know if he will at some point, but I think that's something that's common with that injury. Derrick went through it last year."
He added:
"The good thing is that even if you do have it, it's not a huge setback. It's not something that sets you way back. But that is obviously part of the process, or could be, if that arises down the road.”
Britt could manage to play only four games during the 2010 NFL season before suffering the injury blow. He had an arthroscopic surgery during the team’s training camp last year.
Now just before the start of the training camp this season, he faces risk of having second operation.
If the player takes as much time on recovery from the latest planned procedure, he might miss the entire 2012 NFL season.
The coach has not said anything around the timeline of his second operation and how much time will he need to recover and rehabilitate.
Also, while the coach said that he was confident the latest scare will not be a serious setback for the player, he commented on his present status, saying the player seems to be all right.
The coach said:
"He's been doing well, running hard, and we'll just have to see how the knee responds.”
Munchak’s self assuring line has come in contradiction to his earlier expressed fears that the player might need another surgery, which in no way is a good development for either the player or the team.
Since the coach himself seems not to be hundred percent about the second procedure, Britt might be able to get fit without going under the knife once again.
