Tennessee Titans WR Nate Washington doubtful as Kenny Britt returns vs San Diego Chargers – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans are likely to be affected on the receiver’s position as their main wide receiver Nate Washington is doubtful for this weekend’s game versus the San Diego Chargers.
Nate missed Friday’s practice of the team while recovering from a calf injury and the team has placed him on the questionable list amid very thin hopes of his availability this Sunday.
His absence will certainly affect the team’s performance given he is the only and main player on the receiving end of quarterback Jake Locker’s throws. While the team can expect wide receiver Kenny Britt to make up for Nate’s absence to an extent, he might
not be able to take full workload.
Coach Mike Munchak has already hinted at giving Britt about 20 percent snaps in the game to allow him to absorb the playing conditions, after returning from anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries, which had cost him
almost the entire past season.
Further, his off-field troubles caused him a game suspension by the league, and after remaining on the sidelines in the season opener he is coming back on the field for the first time after a long gap.
It is a sensible decision for the team and most importantly for the player that he should be allowed some time to ease back into the environment gradually and steadily. A question might also be asked how long he can sustain in a single session on the field,
because the knee injuries might have had some impact on his overall fitness level.
The coach nevertheless is willing to take him back in the playing conditions gradually, irrespective of the fact that the team stands affected in the next game.
Even if Nate is able to make it to the weekend game, his stay on the field for about 80 percent snaps might be very much in question. His return, if it happens, would certainly not be a guarantee that he was hundred percent prior to the game. This can put
him on the risk of further aggravating the injury and both sides could suffer in the longer run.
