Tennessee Titans add linemen Michael Jasper, Jonathan Palmer to O-line – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans have further consolidated the depth at the offensive line by signing a pair of linemen on Wednesday.
Linemen Michael Jasper and Jonathan Palmer are the fresh signings by the team, taking the total number of players on the roster at present to 90.
As per rules of the professional league regulator National Football League (NFL), each team is allowed to have up to 93-player roster strength until training camp and preseason phase, but that number has to be cut down to 53 before the start of the regular
season.
Titans have recently lost a few players to injuries, which had affected their overall roster strength but it is now back into the 90’s figure.
Following the ousting of tackle Mike Otto with a dislocated finger and centre Eugene Amano with torn triceps, the team had particularly lost strength at the offensive positions.
The situation was further aggravated for them with left guard Steve Hutchinson taking some time off for rest. He is apparently suffering from fatigue due to hectic training schedule.
Terms of the deals signed with the linemen have not been disclosed by either of the stakeholders, but independently they are reported to have received a year-long contract each.
Both players are expected to be part of the team in their second preseason game later this week. The signings are particularly good news for coach Mike Munchak who foresaw the team being affected on the offensive line with departure of aforementioned players
with respective injury problems.
Titans are amongst the only few teams in the league who are comfortable with their quarterback situation. They have not one but two experienced offence leaders – Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker – but their performance could have affected for sure due to
the lack of players’ strength at other offensive positions.
The team otherwise is also content with the receivers’ situation and now with the problem of tackles solved, the offensive line is expected to receive a major boost.
Although both newly signed linemen are not very experienced players, they have spent a considerable amount of time with leading teams over the past couple of years.
