Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak, assistant staff face owner Bud Adams’ scrutiny – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans were able to beat their American Football Conference (AFC) South rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars, in the final game of the season to end the year 2012 with a 6-10 record – the way they had ended the 2010 season.
Now a question is looming large whether this win was enough for them to overcome the bad memories of their 7-55 loss to the Green Bay Packers a game earlier. Particularly, whether the Jags' win is enough to satisfy owner Bud Adams, who had come out with
a furious statement saying they could not go on losing games the way they lost to the Packers.
Even coach Mike Munchak found it difficult to swallow and digest the Packers’ loss – unexpectedly hoping the owner to be ignorant to the pathetic show-off by the team, although he later conceded gravity of the loss and pleaded the owner for mercy.
Just like Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur, Munchak has backed his players, saying they have shown potential to improve. He also insisted that the two-year period was not enough for him to spend with the team and put them on consistent winning ways.
What both coaches have in common is that they have spent two seasons each with their respective teams and both are on the verge of losing their jobs because of their failings to turn around their units.
Whether Bud Adams will consider Munchak’s plea that he and his coaching staff deserve a chance is yet to be known, but the owner has sounded to be clearer in his warning that he needs answers to certain questions such as the miserable loss to the Packers.
The latest remarks are reflective of an earlier informal notice of the owner to the team’s officials to improve or else face scrutiny. It is more likely that there will not be an easy going for all coaches. They stand equally responsible for the team’s poor
performance in the eyes of the owner, irrespective of the question who will survive the scare and who will go.
It is pertinent to note that Munchak sacked his assistant coach and offensive coordinator Chris Palmer. He was replaced with Tom Moore into last quarter of the season and the Packers’ loss was well under Moore's reign.
