Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak confirms QB Matt Hasselbeck starter at Jake Locker’s place – NFL News
Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak has confirmed absence of quarterback Jake Locker in the game against the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday (Oct. 07) and said former offence leader QB Matt Hasselbeck will assume the charge of the leadership role at Locker’s
place.
Jake has suffered a separated shoulder twice this season and the latest scare requires him to be on the sidelines nursing the injury for about another week. He might be able to report recovery to full health and fitness in the game after this week, provided
the rehab process remains on the course at current pace.
Mike had earlier expressed doubts on the availability of the player for the next game but refrained from confirming it officially. He has now made it official, after the team practice on Wednesday which was missed by Locker, that the QB will not be part
of the team this weekend.
Further, he confirmed that Hasselbeck will start the game for the Titans. Hasselbeck had also replaced Locker in Houston Texans’ game after injury to the latter in the first quarter of the game.
Hasselbeck’s performance of the day was completion of 17 out of 25 passes for 193 yards. This includes two touchdowns, but unfortunately his two throws were intercepted and converted into touchdowns by the Texans which at the end helped them consolidate
their lead margin to a higher extent.
This is the first season that youngster Locker has been acting as an offence leader for the team, as Hasselbeck had traditionally been the offence leader in the past. He led the side to a better performance of last year (9-7) but could not make to the playoffs.
He lost the job to newly emerged quarterback Locker in a competition that the team had thrown in between the two starters during the offseason.
Even though Locker has won the competition he has not performed impressively well as an offence leader so far. While suffering in form, Locker has also got himself injured twice this season. Both times it was his left shoulder that got hurt and luckily he
has escaped a possibility of serious injury both times.
