Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak endorses Marc Mariani's skills for WR role – NFL News
The third-year wide receiver, Marc Mariani, hopes to win a role to his natural position in the crowded Tennessee Titans this season.
Marc, who has played his entire college league career as a wide receiver, is left down to perform as a return specialist by Titans for the last couple of years.
He, however, has a greater optimism this year that he is placed at his position. This can be possible given that Titans’ head coach, Mike Munchak, has recently spoken high of the player’s abilities as a wide receiver.
Mariani earned a number of opportunities to receive catches from Titans’ quarterbacks during the offseason practices and his presence and form on the position have made an impression on the coach. The official has hinted at considering
the player for the role.
Munchak said:
“He just makes plays. In practice here, he’s one of the guys that when the ball went up, it seemed like he came down with it, or he found a way to get open. His routes were sharp, or he was getting out of his routes well. He was fun to
watch.”
Although Munchak's appreciation of the player’s talent as a WR is no guarantee, the coach's words can be taken as endorsement of Mariani’s qualification for the role.
Mariani admitted that the pressure of losing his job earlier in the season helped him pick up the pace of his game and improve performance.
Titans have recruited wide receiver, Kendall Wright, in the first round of this year’s draft, and given that the rookie has been projected to be quicker, and Mariani himself struggling to win a role as a receiver, a number of media reports
hinted at his possible exit from Tennessee.
Luckily, Mariani has survived the scare and is aiming to win a spot at his WR position.
He said:
“Kendall is a heck of a football player. But I can’t control that. What I can control is taking advantage of my opportunities, trying to go out there and make plays. It’s fun listening to the reports and the opinions that are out there.
It’s fuel for me. It motivates me.”
Nevertheless, the player has to wait for the start of this regular season to know if he is placed at the WR position.
